It has been lucky 7 years since I graduated in high school, but oblivion never prevailed in our Batch 2001. 'Saint Mary's College our hearts we lay' -a hymn that will always be a part of a true MARIANista! This is a proof that I love writing ever since, I quote "We also have gifted children in our batch starting with our makata (poet) the tula writer-Catherine Salazar" :D Hahaha! I remember how some of my batchmates ask me to write a poem/good luck letters(during exams) for their crushes, I was like a psychologist asking them "How do you feel?" (so I could relate:-P). I even read this together with Claud during our Grad Ball! Hayyy... reminiscing. It was when I first wore a gown in highschool and first time I got my eyebrows plucked! Ouch. It was kind of freakish coz I was a tomboy then.
Thanks to Weena Jade for posting this in the group discussion. :D This post is dedicated to pretty Johanna Tahadlangit, my cousin, and beautiful Lora Dzen del Fierro, our batchmates who already moved from here to heaven. :( Anyway, just read the rest of out history...
CLASS HISTORY By: Maricar Palban (our valedictorian)
You might say that graduating batch is bunch of geeks, nerds, insomniacs and book-swallowing people. Maybe true to others, but not with us.I was expecting to find nerds, geeks, weirdoes, and fanatics. But I was wrong. This is a batch filled with big mouthed individuals—“ Kay ang mga Tao, bisag nag-atbangay na, mag siningitay lang. gihapon!!” Just imagined the kind of scenario if all of us gathered and talk at the same time. (Which, by the way, we always do). What a riot, isn’t it? Yes, it is or should I say it was. It really was and we all had the fun.
As evident by the fact that most of our teachers walked out from the class because of annoyance. This is probably the reason why the memories that we shared will never be forgotten. The memories will always be there, treasured, pampered and always remembered.
Well, without further do, this is the time to unleash. Yes we want to leave a legacy. By all means, we want to let the whole world know, “SENIORS 2001” THE BEST there was, the BEST there is and the BEST that ever will be!!
Let’s take a memory trip. It was June 1997 when I stood afraid at new faces, new atmosphere, and new group of friends and the place… the most approximate guess would be the third floor of H.S. building near the CR with annoying smell where hordes of weird-looking and extremely shy first year stud's flocked over the corridors, not knowing where their respective rooms are.
I was quite uneasy of what things lay ahead of the friendship these new classmate of mine may bring. None of us seemed to get along with another’s group. Later did I realize that we were all getting along with each other so well.
Do you still remember who were your classmates in First year? We were divided into three sections namely; “ section Hope under cutie Mrs. Merle, section Charity with charming Ma’am Cha-cha and section Faith with sexy Ma’am Ymalay. Remember this line, …” a one time, a two time… olala-olala..” . Well you got it. It is one of the songs during the Intrams ’97.. Where most of the attentions of the audience were focused on us because of our color combination, yellow-green shirt and orange short..And we gain the tittle “shocking Babies”. And when it comes to interpretative dances. We were the first batch who used leotards andtights, not to be boastful or anything..
Important things happened to this batch. There were light and shadows. There were times when we committed mistakes but we are always ready to pick ourselves up and made a fresh start. Just like what happened during the sophomore years. II- JOY, one of our hobbies during that time is playing cards.
And one time when some are enjoying “chiki-cha” game, our CL teacher Ma’am Mading entered the room and caught us on the act of playing cards, which was immediately reported to our adviser, Ma’am Fe. Then to our Principal Sis. Malou. Almost everyone was involved from the class officers, top ten, down to the most naughty except for those who were “angels” konu.. and the punishment, two weeks cleaning the classroom, as a matter of fact, we always top the cleanliness drive. And we called ourselves as “sugarol” or “chiki-cha”………. Until now, we cant believe we’ve done it. We were supposed to be the cream of crops, but we have done nothing to stop it.. Maybe we were just over studied.
I was exactly thrilled when I learned who my classmates were in my last year as a high school student. I really thought that most of them were boring. Of course, I was wrong. Little did we know that the four years we have been together, would strengthen the bond of our friendship and it will be the most memorable times everyone has ever had.
Every character is present in this batch from moody to bad tempered, Angielene Vergara and Gelcielou Gementiza. 100 % boiling point. Lovely Arianne Zamora, noisy and talkative.
