I went to customs today to get EJ's board shorts I ordered in Ebay. It arrived 30 days ago but I was too busy and lazy to get it (or I was just hesitant to pay taxes just like the other item I bought on Jan.). They were about to close when I arrived. A skinny, tanned woman asked if I was going to claim a package and asked me to pay 35 pesos. I was sort of surprised coz I paid 800+ tax for an item before.
The woman then checked the package and asked me if it's okay to remove the AUD 79.99 tag (which wasn’t really the price when I bought it). She told me to say it's just a gift if the custom person asks so I won't pay any taxes. She gave me the tag and I placed it in my wallet. I realized that I have not said any word but just nods and suspicious looks.
The bubbles in my head.
1. This woman has a really good aura; she might really just wanna help. (I should grab it coz the tax isn't fair. They would base it in the tag that is actually wrong!)
2. She probably thinks I don’t have enough money. (What? Why am I here any way?)
3. She’s most likely just another under-the-table employee. (Shame on you!)
She knocked on the custom person's door and showed the package. A fat, wicked-looking woman asked: "Where's the tag?"
"It doesn't have any tag, I guess it's just a gift for her", while looking at me... "Right?"
I gave another nod. My suspicious looks turned into a cheerless one. I know I was acting. But inside me, my devil-like laugh can’t help but get loud. It almost split my ears!
The woman closed the door and smiled. It was a sincere smile. But I was still a little bit hesitant. Ugh, the bubbles in my head. I don’t wanna be part of any form of corruption, I was willing to pay! But was it too late to think like that?
“Uhm, should I pay you?”, I asked cautiously.
“No, I wanna help in my own little way.” And she smiled.
WHAT A SHAME!
I smiled back. “Thank you very much.” But I was melting. I should have trusted my 1st bubble!

I never thought you could evade taxes like that. I mean, I had a gift one time from the US, a camera, I didn't know you could say it's a gift, but it really is.
